چکیده
In November 2016, a 95 GHz cloud radar was permanently deployed in Reunion Island to investigate the vertical distribution of tropical clouds and monitor temporal variability cloudiness frame pan-European research infrastructure Aerosol, Clouds Trace gases Research InfraStructure (ACTRIS). present study, reflectivity observations collected during two first years operation (2016–2018) this vertically pointing are relied upon diurnal seasonal cycle northern part island. Cloud radar observations of precipitation
An innovative method for the observation of vertical air motion and raindrop size distribution in precipitation using a 94-GHz Doppler radar is demonstrated in this paper. The method is particularly appealing since it is based on fundamental physics, the scattering of microwave radiation by large particles (Mie scattering). Observations from stratiform rain are presented to illustrate the poten...
متن کاملSeasonal and diurnal variation of lightning activity over southern Africa and correlation with European whistler observations
Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) data have been analysed to ascertain the statistical pattern of lightning occurrence over southern Africa. The diurnal and seasonal variations are mapped in detail. The highest flash rates (107.2 km−2y−1) occur close to the equator but maxima are also found over Madagascar (32.1 km−2y−1) and South Africa (26.4 km−2y−1). A feature of the statistics is a relatively ...
متن کاملIdentification of landslides in La Reunion Island with JERS-1 and RADARSAT-1 radar interferometry
La Réunion Island is affected by constant slope movement and huge landslides due to the rough topography, a wet climate and favourable geological context. Radar interferometry can provide a mean for identifying landslides on a large scale. Because of the vegetation cover, C-band interferograms are generally hampered. Using JERS-1 images, we show that the L-Band can be used to overcome the loss ...
متن کاملSeasonal and diurnal variations of Hg over New England
Factors influencing diurnal to interannual variability in Hg over New England were investigated using multiyear measurements conducted by AIRMAP at the Thompson Farm (TF) coastal site, an inland elevated site at Pac Monadnock (PM), and two month measurements on Appledore Island (AI) in the Gulf of Maine. Mixing ratios of Hg at TF showed distinct seasonality with maxima in March and minima in Oc...
